Valarie Kahn, 58, of Toccoa, owned a home on Wildflower Lane that fell into foreclosure and was sold at auction. The man who purchased the house found nine dead cats and two dead dogs inside the home, police said.

The two dogs were tied to doors out of reach of food and water, and two of the cats were in a cage without food or water, according to police. The seven other dead cats were found throughout the house.

Kahn said in court Friday she had not lived in the house for two and a half years. Officials plan to perform necropsies on the animals.

In addition to the dead animals, the house was filled with debris, police said: dishes in the sink, clutter on the floor and other items scattered around the house.

Kahn faced a first appearance hearing Friday morning, and a magistrate judge granted her $25,000 bond. Kahn was still in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center as of 3:30 p.m. Friday. She faces 11 charges of aggravated animal cruelty.
