Rocketman: Buzz Aldrin shines in rocket-themed metallic suit in Apollo astronauts

The eight surviving Apollo astronauts were recently honored, but one of the spacemen really stood out -- Buzz Aldrin.

Aldrin, who was the second astronaut to set foot on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969 -- the first, Neil Armstrong, died in 2012 -- wore a shiny, metallic suit, covered with rocket ships. He paired the flamboyant outfit with a matching bow tie, socks covered in stars and stripes and a medal hanging from his neck, USA Today reported.

Aldrin, 89, and seven other Apollo astronauts were honored at the 115th Explorers Club Annual Dinner, to mark the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. The dinner was held earlier this month, but the Apollo 11 moon landing anniversary is July 20, Forbes reported.

Aldrin commented on the photo on Twitter, saying he didn't get the what-to-wear memo.

The suit may have been the perfect outfit for the Explorers Club dinner, where about 1,700 members dined on deep-fried cockroaches, tarantulas and scorpions, Forbes reported.

He apparently has a thing for the suit. He was seen wearing it at Celebrity Fight Night in Phoenix, USA Today reported.
