Millions of Nissan cars and SUVs have been recalled because of an issue with the back up camera.
According to a document the company sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a defect with the camera means the vehicles do not comply with federal regulations.
"On affected vehicles, a driver may potentially adjust the rear view camera and display settings to the degree that the image is no longer visible, and the system will retain those settings at the next backing event," the document said.
"A temporarily reduced rear visibility when the driver has adjusted the display to this extent could lead to an increased risk of an accident in the event the driver does not re-adjust the display before reversing."
Affected vehicles include 1.2 million 2018-2019 Nissan and Infiniti vehicles, including the Nissan Altima and Nissan Rogue. They were manufactured in England, Mexico, Japan and Smyrna, Tennessee, and Canton, Mississippi.
The full list of recalled 2018-2019 model vehicles, according to the NHTSA document, are: Nissan Altima, Nissan Kicks, Infiniti Q50, Nissan LEAF, Nissan Rogue, Infiniti Q60, Nissan Maxima, Nissan Rogue Sport, Infiniti Q70, Nissan Sentra, Nissan Murano, Infiniti QX30, Nissan Versa Note, Nissan Pathfinder, Infiniti QX50, Nissan Versa sedan, Nissan Frontier, Infiniti QX60, Nissan GT-R, Nissan Titan, Infiniti QX80, Nissan NV, Nissan NV200 and Nissan Taxi.
The affected vehicles are under warranty and will be fixed with a free software upgrade.
