HENAN PROVINCE, China — A capuchin monkey at a zoo in Central China is a little too smart for its own good.
A video released by the Zhengzhou Zoo in Henan Province shows the animal using a rock to shatter the glass barrier of its enclosure.
"The monkey was sharpening the stone, then it started hitting it on the glass," according to a tourist, who saw the incident, the India Times reported.
The monkey seemed just as surprised as everyone else when the glass shattered. It jumped and fled, then returned to take another look.
A zoo worker said the capuchin is known by employees because unlike other monkeys at the zoo, it’s smart enough to know how to use tools.
"This monkey is unlike other monkeys. This one knows how to use tools to break walnuts. When we feed walnuts to other monkeys, they only know to bite it, but it had never hit the glass before, though. This is the first time," Tian Shuliao told a local news outlet, according to the Times.
The reinforced glass wall did not fall after it shattered in place, and the animal remains in his enclosure at the zoo, minus the rocks that were previously in his habitat, which were removed after the incident.
