Divers find lost wedding band at bottom of lake, return it to couple married 64 years

HAWLEY, Pa. — Divers in Pennsylvania have made sure a couple's story will still have a romantic ending.

Grace Paulnack was walking on a dock at Lake Wallenpaupack Tuesday and the wedding band that has been on her finger for 64 years slipped off and fell into the water, WNEP reported.

"You know how you try to balance yourself on a dock, well flip! She was waving her hands around and the ring flings off, the ring that nobody could get off. And my two nieces were like, 'Oh my God Aunt Grace, the ring just fell into the lake,'" Carl and Grace Paulnack told WNEP.

It wasn't the cost of the ring, Carl paid $10 six decades ago, but rather it was the love and history behind it that made the couple upset over the loss.

"I thought it was an omen. I thought it was an omen. This is the end of our life. I am not superstitious, but I thought, this is an omen. This is a harboring of things to come. Now she says, 'Don't worry about it. We will get another ring. Nope, I want that ring," Carl Paulnack told WNEP.

But divers from Ledgedale Dive/Rescue Team came in to save the day.

They jumped into the lake and found the ring the next day.

"It seemed like he was down there forever. I guess it wasn't, but still. Then he said 'Is it two rings?' Because yes, the ring came apart. It's a nestle of rings. So when he came up and said, 'I think I found it,' it was a miracle for me," Carl Paulnack told the television station.

Grace Paulnack was grateful to get the ring back.

"I just hugged him even though he was soaking wet and had all that stuff on. I wanted to hug him, but I was afraid I might push him in the water," she said.
