Cease and desist: Minnesota judge signs restraining order against 'Old Man Winter'

A Minnesota judge, mindful of another snowstorm expected to hit the state this weekend, Thursday granted a "temporary restraining order" against Minneapolis meteorologists, Old Man Winter and Mr. Snow, KSTP reported.

District Judge Kevin S. Burke signed the restraining order in favor of the Citizens of Minnesota in the lawsuit, filed in Hennepin County, the television station reported.

Burke ordered the defendants not to allow any more snow in Minnesota this winter, KMSP reported.

“Minnesotans are hardy people. They enjoy their winters and have a good relationship with the Defendants,” Burke wrote in his tongue-in-cheek opinion. “But there comes a point when the trust between the parties is ruptured.”

Burke went on to admonish Minneapolis area meteorologists for conspiring with the wintry elements, KSTP reported.

"There will be those who question the authority of this Court," Burke wrote in his decision. "It is plausible that this Court will be seen as an out of control judicial activist," but "there is compelling evidence in the record that Minnesota Meteorologists have conspired with the other Defendants to increase television and radio ratings. Who, for example, would watch the weather in Hawaii, where it is always nice?"

Six to 10 inches are predicted for the Twin Cities area this weekend, KSTP reported.

There is no word whether the defendants will appeal the ruling.
