Templeton police officer struck, not seriously injured, in hit-and-run

TEMPLETON, Mass. — A woman is facing criminal charges after she hit a police officer working a traffic detail, and then drove away.

Templeton Police say the officer, who works part-time for the department after retiring from a 30-year career, was working a traffic detail on State Road Thursday morning.

Investigators say the female driver was turning onto the road from a side street and clipped the officer's arm, throwing him to the ground.

Construction works on scene managed to get part of her license plate as she sped off with her side mirror dangling from the impact.

Within hours, police tracked down the damaged car.

Boston 25 News reporter Kathryn Burcham saw the female suspect leaving the police station after questioning, but we are not identifying her because she has not been charged. She did tell us that if she had hit someone, she would have stopped.

"He was checked out by EMS and he was OK, he continued his detail, but it's just unfortunate she didn't stop to make sure he's alright, but he is OK," said Templeton Police Sgt. Steven Flis.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.
