BOSTON — A 16-year-old boy was arrested on murder charges in connection with a weekend shooting that killed a man and left six other people injured.
Police arrested Emanuel Marrero from Lynn Monday night for the shooting that killed 19-year-old Pablo Villeda.
Police say the shooting happened early Sunday during a party in a vacant apartment attended by 50 people. Six other people, including the suspect's step-brother, were taken to the hospital with gunshot injuries not considered life-threatening. One other person had injuries unrelated to the gunfire.
After Marrero's arraignment Tuesday, friends told FOX25 this was the second night the teens and young adults had been partying in that same apartment.
FOX25 has learned that Marrero knew Villeda prior to the deadly shooting. No official motive has been released, but FOX25 has learned that a disagreement between the two began on social media.
Many of Villeda's friends showed up at court to support their late friend.
"He wasn't a trouble maker that's what I'm saying. Whatever happened that night I know he didn't start anything. I know that for a fact,” Jeffrey Contreras said.
The surviving shooting victims are three females, ages 15, 17 and 18, and three males, ages 15, 18 and 22.
A vigil for Villeda is being held Wednesday evening.
