Teacher at St. John's Prep School accused of sex abuse in mid-1980s

DANVERS, Mass. — A teacher at St. John’s Preparatory School has been accused of sexually abusing a child in the mid-1980s, according to the organization in charge of the school.

The Xaverian Brothers say Baltimore police notified them of the allegation made against Brother Robert Flaherty.

The organization did not specify any details beyond the mid-1980s, during which time Flaherty was teaching at Mount St. Joseph in Baltimore.

According to the Xaverian Brothers, Flaherty was in Baltimore from 1980-1993, Louisville, Kentucky from 1994-1999 and in Massachusetts ever since.

Flaherty taught at St. John’s from 1999-2007 and then in a second stint from 2010 until his suspension last week, according to a news statement released by the organization.

“The Xaverian Brothers continue to cooperate fully with the civil authorities in their investigation of this allegation,” the statement read.
