TAUNTON, Mass. — A person was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Taunton on Wednesday evening, the DA's office says.
According to police, officers responded to a 911 call for a pedestrian hit by a car at around 5:30 p.m. in the area of 305 Middleborough Avenue in East Taunton.
At the scene, officers found 85-year-old Jose Ferreira, of Taunton, lying on the road.

Ferreira was rushed to Morton Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died from his injuries.
Police continue to investigate the crash. Officials said the car believed to be involved in the hit-and-run is a small gray SUV that fled westbound on Middleboro Avenue. The vehicle may have light damage to its windshield and/or hood.
Anyone with information on this crash is asked to contact Taunton Police. Even seemingly minor details or observations could be helpful to investigators as they search for the driver.
