Suspect indicted four months after man was stabbed in Millis

A Norfolk County grand jury indicted a suspect involved in a stabbing incident that took place in his Millis apartment over the summer.

Ed Burns was indicted on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and he is a key figure in the investigation into the unsolved stabbing death of his ex-wife, Stacey Burns, in New Hampshire.

Burns was not charged in the unsolved murder case, but the upgraded charged in Massachusetts is likely to lead to new scrutiny for him.

According to a police report, Burns stabbed the victim in the back during a fight, and responding officers found large amounts of blood in the apartment.

They also found a 12-inch kitchen knife, with what appeared to be blood on a kitchen counter.

Burns suffered a cut over his eye, and claimed to police that he acted out of self defense.

At a Wrentham District Court hearing in August, Burns confronted Boston 25 News reporter Bob Ward, and made a stabbing motion with his hand, claiming it was self defense.

"I was attacked," Burns said. "I was defending myself. It was a prick. I went in like an eighth. I just wanted to stop it. Look at the wound, he was released. This is ridiculous."

Burns is a key figure in the Mother's Day murder of his ex-wife in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire in 2009, who was stabbed to death in her bed, just days before a divorce court hearing.

Burns denies killing her, but when he confronted Bob Ward in court in August, he blamed Ward for the restraining order Stacey's family has out against him since his arrest.

"You are driving a wedge between my kids and I," Burns said. "My twins and I."

The indictment means Burns will be arraigned in Dedham Superior Court, but no date has been set.

The New Hampshire Attorney General's office is investigating the Stacey Burns murder, and they have no comment on Ed Burns' indictment.
