WELLESLEY, Mass. — A wild chase through several towns involving a stolen Amazon delivery van ends on Glen Brook Road in Wellesley.

“It was about 7:30 when all the commotion came in. There were cars everywhere. It was crazy,” said Declan Byrne who lives on the quiet dead end.

Nearly an hour earlier, around 6:30pm, Mass State Police say 23-year old, Cameron Mignon of Sharon stole the van from the Amazon warehouse in Norwood. Norwood Police tried to stop Mignon, but he eventually got onto 95 and took off heading north on the highway.

Mignon led both state and local police through several towns, and at one point slammed into a Needham police cruiser.

State Police eventually deployed stop sticks and flattened the van’s tires, but Mignon still managed to keep going for a bit.

That’s when Byrne noticed all the commotion on his street.

“It wasn’t a loud noise. Police did a good job, they were calm, but it was chaotic really. It seems like the guy didn’t make a move. They subdued him easily enough, but it certainly was a tense standoff. We could see a bit of a kerfuffle here, but police did a great job,” said Byrne.

“The safety of the public is paramount to us and we strive to run that line between apprehending a dangerous person and keeping the safety of the public in mind and I think that the officers did a good job,” said Byrne.

Boston 25 spoke with Lt. Sarah Lyden at Norwood Police Thursday to find out how the events unfolded.

“They called for an individual on the property, he was acting kind of erratically, they wanted him off the property.”

“One of the managers tried to stop him from going, and the vehicle drove off with that manager grabbing onto the car for a little bit.”

“When the operator of the amazon van noticed the police car, he took off. Blue lights and sirens went on, didn’t stop for our officer, and the pursuit entailed,” says Lt. Lyden.

According to State Police Mignon was taken to a Framingham hospital to be evaluated. He’s facing several charges including negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for police. More charges could be coming.
