Surveillance video showcases the dramatic moments when a thief took off with a family's car, packed with their 4-year-old daughter Juliah's unwrapped Christmas gifts.

A neighbor gave the surveillance video to Boston 25 News, showing the theft as someone hops into the car and takes off, all before nearly crashing the vehicle.

The video shows the thief hopping into an unlocked Volkswagen Jetta, spinning around on the street in Dedham and heading the wrong direction on a one-way street before nearly colliding with a Jeep.

"I don't know how to explain this to a 4-year-old, that someone stole what Santa brought them," Lauren Ingram said.

The child's parents, William and Lauren Ingram, told Boston 25 News Thursday that the family had been finishing up the Christmas festivities at their grandmother's house.

The father had just packed up the car with the gifts, and had left it running to warm it up.

"I walk inside, I come back out, and I'm like, 'Stop playing with me,'" William Ingram said. "I said, 'The car ain't out here, the car's gone.'"

Police quickly arrived and began investigating, and as the search for the car and thief continues, the parents are trying to salvage the holidays for their little girl.

"People work hard for what's theirs," Lauren Ingram said. "It's not fair for you to strip people out of what belongs to them."
