A supermoon occurs when the moon is near its closest point to Earth during its orbit, making it appear bigger and brighter than other full moons.
Today’s full Moon is also… wait for it… a supermoon! The Moon is close to its perigee, which is the closest point in its orbit to Earth. This means this full Moon appears brighter and bigger than other full Moons throughout the year. https://t.co/OuPuAUfwE8 pic.twitter.com/OFgQtE6xWG

This time around, this 'Snow Moon' supermoon will appear 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than it usually does during its full moon phase.
