DUXBURY, Mass. — A middle school field trip left a 12-year-old girl suspended 30-feet in the air.

Students at Plymouth South Middle School took a field trip to Camp Wing in Duxbury Monday when the fire department was called in.

"She was kind of stuck up in the harness. Exactly how that came to be and how that happened is being investigated," said Duxbury Fire Captain Brian Monahan.

The school principal sent a letter to parents explaining the student, identified as Sara Bisson, "experienced difficulty with the safety equipment being used for a ropes course initiative. As a result, the student became entangled in the ropes."

It's unclear how she got stuck in the tree.

"The girl was 30 feet up in the air... So there's some special equipment that's needed. In this case... it was not needed. We were able to get her to the ground fairly quickly," said Monahan.

Bisson said she finished the ropes course before losing her footing and falling.

Bisson's mother was a chaperone on the field trip, and said she couldn't be more thankful for the teachers and special crews who came to the rescue.

The girl was taken from Camp Wing to a local hospital as a precaution.

The Duxbury Fire Dept. referred this incident to the State Department of Professional Licensure, Office of Public Safety and Inspections. That agency is responsible for licensing the ropes course.
