Stoughton man accused of killing wife could be deported

STOUGHTON, Mass. — The man accused of killing his wife before trying to take his own life could be deported, ICE officials say.

Ilton Rodrigues pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges on Monday from his hospital bed. Officials say Rodrigues stabbed his wife, 43-year-old Telma Bras, then tried to kill himself while their two children were home.

ICE officials say Rodrigues is a citizen of Brazil and they have lodged a detainer on him, "ICE’s Enforcement and  Removal Operations lodged an immigration detainer with the  Norfolk County House of Corrections on Ilton Furtado Rodrigues, a citizen of Brazil charged with murder. ICE will seek his removal pending the outcome of the criminal charges he faces."

On Monday, Rodrigues was ordered held without bail and is due in court on June 11.
