WHITMAN, Mass. — A 2-year-old girl found unresponsive in a house in Whitman over the weekend was taken off life support Tuesday and the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office is now investigating her death.
The girl’s father tells Boston 25 News her name was Lyric Farrell. Her father, Christopher Farrell, provided Boston 25 News with photos and videos of her.
Officials waiting on an autopsy to determine the Farrell’s cause of death.
The DA’s office said that a 911 call was made just after midnight on Saturday. A dispatcher told several crews responding that the girl was unconscious at 863 Washington Street.
“We still have the baby unresponsive, trying to uh, gather more information with the caller... we are going to attempt to do CPR, police are also en route,” said a dispatcher.
A source told Boston 25 News that the girl was found on a couch wrapped in a blanket with apparent head trauma and bruises. She was rushed to Brockton Hospital before being flown to Boston Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
Neighbors said there have been problems in the past and, up until recently, the girl hadn’t been living with her mother. They said Lyric moved back in with her mom a few weeks ago.
“It’s sad, she has a lot of kids in the house," said Shy Haney, a neighbor. “It’s just sad when it happens, when it happens to anyone, but especially a little one -- she has a little brother so it’s just sad.”
The Department of Children and Families said it is part of the investigation and issued a short statement saying, "The Department of Children and Families (DCF) is investigating this tragic situation in collaboration with law enforcement.”
Whitman’s police chief sent a statement to Boston 25 News saying his department was working with Massachusetts State Police and the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
