NORTON, Mass. — Severe weather that hit southeastern Massachusetts on Tuesday caused significant damage to the town of Norton.
Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in Norton. The strength and duration would take more time to be confirmed.
Bristol County was one of the many areas in the state under severe thunderstorm warning for most of the afternoon, along with parts of Plymouth, Middlesex, Norfolk, Barnstable and Worcester.
Sky25 went up over Norton moments after the rain had stopped to get an aerial view of some of the damage.
Along Reservoir Street, a tree was seen snapped in half as well as other downed trees where firefighters, National Grid crews as well as the Red Cross were assessing the damage, but no injuries were reported.
Two residents who spoke to Boston 25 News said their homes, trucks and their garages had been damaged, but reported no one was injured during the storm.
Many experienced power outages as downed trees likely affected power lines.
Downed trees had also blocked driveways and fire crews were assessing other trees that could potentially come down after sustaining wind and water damage.
Clean-up crews were on scene at around 6:30 p.m. clearing out trees and assessing the storm damage.
It is still unclear whether a tornado touched down in the area. Boston 25 News will update you as soon as we receive any updates on that.
