SAUGUS, Mass. — In Saugus, Police took into custody a man who allegedly led officers on a brief pursuit Monday morning, leading some to wonder if he is a suspect in a weekend homicide.
“In Saugus, stuff like this don’t happen,” resident Al Costello said. “Rumor is, something to do with the murder on Route 1.”
The incident, on Gilway Street, happened moments after the Essex County DA identified 26-year-old Michael Norton as the man found murdered Saturday in an apartment on Collins Avenue, near Route 1.

Neither the Saugus Police nor the Essex County DA will confirm or even comment on whether the man taken into custody has anything to do with Norton’s murder.
Saugus Police tell Boston 25 News the incident began Monday when the man refused to pull his car over for police during a stop. On Gilway Street, where the incident happened, neighbors said they saw police try to box the car in, just before it narrowly missed hitting a home.
“It’s kind of hard to believe,” Anthony Bono said. “This stuff doesn’t happen in Saugus that often. I’m glad they got him if he is the suspect.”
As of press time, the man in the crash was not publicly identified, and the DA’s office told Boston 25 News there is no one charged with Saturday’s murder.
