Rower who left Cape Cod on solo mission across the Atlantic, nearing France

The solo rower who left Chatham in the middle of June to cross the Atlantic ocean to France is getting closer!

He’s been out there for 70 days now and targeting an arrival closer to the end of September.

One real concern is food.

An Instagram page meant to track Guirec’s progress posted an update...

“Here is the position I received last night thanks to a message from a new merchant vessel that crossed by Guirec. They established radio contact in which Guirec confirmed he was fine and that he would wait for the wind to turn to progress. The captain was able to give him the forecast, so he knows he won’t be able to row forward towards Brittany for a good week. Many of you worry about his food supply. Guirec has been gone for 70 days now. Knowing that he has 100 days of food autonomy but consumed about 7 extra days when battling the Canadian currents, he should easily have 23 days of full servings left. So until September 17th he is normally safe from want. However, if he’s in doubt, he’ll start rationing himself, fishing, or at worst, begging the next boat for some good meals ;)If he’s not there by september 25th, Monique will fly there to deliver her best scrambled eggs!”
