Route 1 in Peabody shut down for hours following crash

PEABODY, Mass. — Route 1 has been shut down in both directions following a car crash into a pole. Wires are down across the road.

Route 1 Southbound is closed at Winona Street. Route 1 Northbound is being diverted onto Route 1 Southbound at the jug handle. The ramp from 95 Southbound is closed.

MassDOT anticipates that Route 1 Northbound will reopen at approximately 2:30 p.m., and Route 1 Southbound will reopen around 5:30 p.m.

the meantime, travelers are encouraged to avoid the area and take alternate routes.
