BOSTON — A $1,000 reward is being offered for the return of a retired Boston firefighter's stolen helmet, according to the Boston Fire Museum.
After serving with the Boston Fire Department for many years, the firefighter retired. Soon after, his helmet was stolen.
The helmet is similar to the one pictured above. Markings of Ladder 16 & Engine 51 and the initials "MT" are on the back lip of the helmet.
"Everyone associated with firemen, no matter where they serve, know the important role his or her helmet plays in their career," the museum wrote. "Their helmet protects them from fire, heat and falling objects. Many firemen serve with their helmet throughout their career. Losing a helmet is devastating to a fireman. Losing it by theft is tragic."
Anyone with information on the location of the stolen helmet is urged to leave a message with the Boston Fire Museum at 617-338-9700.
The museum said a $1,000 reward will be offered, no questions asked.
The museum is also asking Facebook users to share the post below in hopes the power of social media can lead to the helmet being returned.
