BOSTON — Just two days after winning the World Series, the Boston Red Sox have locked down star pitcher Chris Sale for 2019.
The 29-year-old left handed pitcher was a standout member of the history-making Red Sox team this season.
Though David Price was the undeniable hero of the World Series, Sale was both a star and a leader on the Sox team that won a franchise best 108 games en route to a World Series Championship.
The Red Sox organization exercised their contract option on the pitcher Tuesday, President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski announced.
Sale was an All-Star for his seventh consecutive season this year and went 12-4 with a 2.11 ERA over 27 starts.
Sale was picked up from the White Sox in December 2016.
