Trespasser fatally struck by train at Porter Square

BOSTON — A person was hit and killed by a train at Porter Station, the MBTA said Sunday morning.

The victim, identified only as a 66-year-old man, was hit after he reportedly trespassed the right of way about 10 yards into the station's northbound tunnel.

The Red Line experienced delays of up to 25 minutes while police responded to the scene.

Shuttle buses also temporarily replaced service between Harvard and Alewife stations.

Transit Police detectives and the Middlesex District Attorney's Office is investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.
