NEW YORK (MyFoxBoston.com) -- GoGo squeeZ, a popular applesauce maker, has recalled products after a production malfunction yielded moldy applesauce.

GoGo squeez comforted consumers by telling them the mold that has affected the products poses no immediate health risk if consumed; it’s the same kind of mold that can grow on fruit.

"However, we know mold is gross and unpleasant to look at or taste, and this is simply not the kind of experience we want you to have," founder and CEO Michel Larroche wrote on the company's site.

There’s no word on the number of pouches that were affected, but consumers are advised to check “Best Before Dates” on individual pouches and cartons of pouches of applesauce. The products involved were produced in the U.S. with dates between 6/30/2016 and 7/26/2016.

"As a result of this action, during the coming weeks, it may be a bit more difficult to find GoGo squeeZ products on your store shelves as we work to get back in stock the high quality products you know and deserve," Larroche said.

Some consumers have suggested the company start selling transparent pouches.

Consumers can find out if they've bought an affected pouch with these instructions, which also direct parents to a product replacement voucher.
