Portsmouth PD still searching for missing father as family searches for answers

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Portsmouth Police held a news conference Wednesday to update their search of a father of two who went missing a few weeks ago after leaving a New Hampshire bar.

The news conference comes after a man posted on Facebook that he believed he had been given a date rape drug while at the Clipper Tavern over the weekend, the same bar that  Adam Camarato of Eliot, Maine was last seen.

Portsmouth Police posted the man's story and said the incident is under investigation. That man told police he got into an altercation with another man, and felt he had consumed a date rape drug.

In Wednesday's news conference, police say the two incidents are not related, but Jamie Fultz - Camarato's sister - told Boston 25 News that she's alarmed the two incidents took place at the same bar.

"Who knows, it could have been something like that," she said. "And I'm glad these people came forward and said what happened to them.

"I guess we can't rule anything out at this point."

Police say there have been no signs of Camarato since he was seen on surveillance video walking north toward Maine around 1 a.m. on the night he went missing. Officials say he walked north on State Street toward a bridge leading to Maine, but that was the last trace they could find of Camarato.

"For this to go on for this amount of time [...] it's an anomaly," said Portsmouth Police Chief Robert Merner.

Chief Merner says Camarato was alone when he left the Clipper Tavern on April 26.

His family is still searching for answers as Camarato's two young sons await his return.

"We need to know what to tell them when they say, you know, 'where's my dad?'" Fultz said. "And it's heartbreaking that we don't know what to tell them."

There were no surveillance cameras at the bar when Camarato went missing. In light of the most recent case, Fultz hopes Clipper Tavern and bars like it will add security cameras inside and out.

"If Clipper hasn't gotten cameras yet, you'd hope they're going to do it now," she said. "It's absolutely frustrating that there's nothing."
