In a statement, Wu spokesperson Jessicah Pierre did not confirm or deny her decision to run for mayor, writing:
“Councilor Wu believes that in this moment of hardship in our city, each one of us should be asking ourselves how we can make a difference in strengthening our communities and fighting for change that matches the scale and urgency of our current challenges.”
Wu became the first woman of color to serve as City Council President and was first elected to the Council in 2013.
Currently serving his second four-year term, Walsh has not officially announced his intention to run for a third term. However, it is widely expected that he will announce at some point.
