Police warn of phishing scam that appears to be from XFINITY

QUINCY, Mass. - Quincy police are warning residents of a phishing scam that is circulating online.
A resident said that she received an email which appears to be from XFINITY.
The email states that they were "unable to process your most recent payment and we could not verify your current information."
It instructs the recipient to download the "attached file" and update your records. It then requests your name, address, SS#, DOB, credit card info, Driver’s License number, username and password.
Quincy police say legitimate companies will never ask for your username and password via email.
This is a typical "phishing" scam (an email will typically directs the user to visit a website where they are asked to update personal information, such as a password, credit card, social security, or bank account numbers).
Tips on how to recognize a "phishing" scam:
  1. Watch for spelling errors. If you notice mistakes, it might be a scam.
  2. Check "links" in the email. Hover over (don't click) the email link. Does it match? If not, be suspicious.
  3. Emails often contains threats such as "your account will be closed" or "to avoid service denial" as in the attached email.
  4. Email is form a popular company (ex: Facebook, Comcast, etc).
