Police: Suspect in Haverhill drive-by shooting arrested in Va.

HAVERHILL, Mass. — A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Virginia for a drive-by shooting in Haverhill earlier this month, police announced Wednesday.

Eddy Manuel Almonte is responsible for shooting and killing Nike Colon, 20, according to Haverhill Police Captain Stephen J. Doherty.

Neighbors told Boston 25 News on May 17 they heard gunshots around 5 p.m. and police later said Colon had been killed in the drive-by.

In a news release Wednesday, Capt. Doherty said Almonte had been arrested in Winchester, Virginia during an unrelated traffic stop. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant for murder and is awaiting the extradition process.

Almonte will be brought back to Massachusetts to face charges in relation to Colon’s murder, police said.
