A Braintree police officer was shot Friday night while checking the warrant status of a person staying at the Motel 6 in Braintree.
According to the chief, when officers arrived at the room the suspect opened fire, and at least one bullet struck the officer in the face.
Boston 25 News has learned the officer was able to speak while being transported to a Boston hospital and does not have life-threatening injuries. The officer underwent surgery late Friday night and according to the chief he is responding well.
State Police, SWAT teams and officers from several surrounding towns responded to the scene after the suspect barricaded himself in the room.
The police chief said everyone else has been evacuated safely and there is no threat to the public.
According to the Braintree Police Chief, when officers went into the room they found the suspect dead.
Red Line trains to Braintree Station have been suspended, the MBTA says.
