Police: Man, 65, with suspended license arrested for Charlestown hit-and-run

EVERETT, Mass. — A 65-year-old man has been arrested for a hit-and-run that killed a Charlestown man last month, police said Monday.

Allen Williams, 65, of Everett, was arrested for the fatal crash that happened Thursday, July 25.

The 59-year-old man who was hit was found before midnight that night with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement to police, Williams said he knew he hit something, but did not know what it was. He says he went back to the scene to check and then went back a second time but saw no person or object.

Police say that victim was on the median, which is where EMS found him dead. That lead to an all-out search for whoever hit and killed the victim. The crash happened not too far from the new Encore Casino in Everett. Police had been looking for the driver for just over a week.

On July 29, police spotted a white pick-up truck in Everett about a block away, which looked like one caught on surveillance video the night of the incident.

Williams faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident after causing death and operating a motor vehicle after suspension or revocation. He also had an outstanding warrant for speeding.

Williams was arraigned on Monday in Charlestown before being released on $1,500 cash bail and ordered not to drive.
