Victim identified in fatal shooting in Haverhill

HAVERHILL, Mass. -- A man who was shot overnight in Haverhill has died, investigators tell Boston 25 News.

The Essex County District Attorney’s Office said a man was shot in the chest Sunday night on Grand Avenue near Emerson Street.

The man was identified as 40-year-old Jeffrey Larkin, who was taken to Holy Family Hospital where he died a short time later.

People who live in the neighborhood said they are considering moving out because of the violence.

“We are done here, we did our time here it’s getting crazy here, I have two kids I have to look after we can’t have them playing outside and bullets being shot around," Joseph Noe said.

To help ease concerns, the Haverhill Police Department has parked a surveillance truck in the area.

“It scares ya, seeing that truck there," neighborhood resident Debbie Kern said. “It’s too close to home - it’s a scary thing you’re afraid to even walk at night now.”

Police aren’t releasing much about what led up to the shooting – neighbors don’t think it was random.

At this time, the victim's identity is not being released because his family has not been notified.
