Suspect arrested for stabbing outside Woburn restaurant

WOBURN, Mass. — A man has been arrested after an early-morning stabbing outside of Jake N Joe’s in Woburn.

FOX25 has learned that the victim, a 31-year-old man, was stabbed around 12:20 a.m., a short time after the bar closed at midnight.

A witness to the attack told FOX25’s Bob Ward he was inside the bar with a friend when a man walked over and started talking to them before the bar closed.

“All three of us walked out. And the two guys were already there. We were saying goodbye to him. Guy walked up and head butted him. And then all hell broke loose,” 21-year-old Blake Lewis said.

Lewis told FOX25 the man they had just met in the bar, later identified as James Lyons, then pulled out a knife.

“The guy took a few steps back and he took out his knife and stabbed the guy, next thing I know, he was gone and the guy was on his knees, bleeding,” Lewis told FOX25.

Without thinking, Lewis began using anything he could to help the victim.

“I took off my boot, gave him my sock, he was on the ground with his hand, blood coming out. And I tried , I panicked, I didn't know what to do,” he said.

Police say they are still working to determine what the motive for the attack is.

"There were a group of individuals, some of them ended up out front and an altercation ensued,” Woburn Police Chief Robert Ferullo said.

The victim remains in the hospital in critical but stable condition.
