WESTON, Mass. — Richard Kamrowski held onto the hood of an SUV - and his life - during a wild ride on the Mass Pike on Friday that began with road rage.

The 65-year-old Framingham resident says it all started when a small accident on the Pike sideswiped his truck. A confrontation with the SUV driver occurred, and Kamrowski somehow ended up on the hood of that SUV.

For nearly three miles, he was hanging on as the SUV traveled at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour.

"I thought he was going to run over me and I don’t know I don’t think he stopped he just kept going fast then slow, fast then slow trying to get me to slide off and I wasn’t getting off the car," Kamrowski said.

Now, the driver of the SUV, 37-year-old Mark Fitzgerald of Lynn, is now facing charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, negligent driving, and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Fitzgerald had no comment as he left the State Police barracks in Weston.

Kamrowski is facing a charge of disorderly conduct.

The two men got into a minor sideswipe crash while traveling in their vehicles on Route 90 westbound in Weston on Friday afternoon, police said.

A verbal altercation followed. Kamrowski then, for reasons still under investigation, got onto the hood of Fitzgerald's 2016 Infiniti QX70 SUV, Massachusetts State Police spokesman David Procopio said in a statement.

Fitzgerald "then proceeded to drive a very significant distance with the other man on the hood of the vehicle," Procopio said.

The SUV then traveled at speeds up to 70 mph, stopping and then accelerating again when the man on the hood did not get off.

"The SUV driver ultimately came to a stop, we believe with the intervention of some Good Samaritans, and was taken into custody by responding troopers," Procopio said.

Troopers responded to the scene at 4:45 p.m. The incident remains under investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident including the initial crash is asked to call the State Police at 781-431-5050.
