FRAMINGHAM — Police have made an arrest in connection to a stabbing at a Union Street apartment in Framingham on Monday.
First responders rushed the female victim to the hospital after making the decision to leave the knife inside her abdomen where she was stabbed. Fire crews say it was safer to leave the knife there before transporting her to the hospital.
"As EMTs we're trained if […] you have a puncture wound, [and] the object is still in the body, we leave it because you could possibly do more damage by removing it," said Kurt O'Rourke, the Deputy Chief of Framingham Fire. "So that's better done at a hospital."
The woman was flown to the trauma center at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester while investigators spent the day gathering evidence outside the top-floor apartment.
There has been no update on the victim's condition nor the severity of her injuries.

Police quickly arrested Devonrick Schouten for the stabbing.
"You never know what kind of organs it hit or what kind of damage it did once it entered the body," said Deputy Chief O'Rourke.
Schouten has been charged with Attempted Murder, and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. She will face a judge Tuesday for the stabbing.
Police are still investigating the incident.
