DANVERS, Mass. — Pete Frates’ high school is making sure his legacy lives on forever by honoring him three different ways.
Frates graduated from St. John's Preparatory School in 2003. On Wednesday, the school announced Frates will be named the 2018 Distinguished Alumnus, the baseball field will be dedicated as the “Pete Frates ’03 Diamond” and his No. 3 baseball, football and hockey jersey will be retired.
The whole Frates family attended the ceremony.
Pete Frates became a household name after starting the Ice Bucket Challenge, prompting millions of people to donate to ALS research.
At the ceremony, John Frates, Pete’s father, said St. John’s Prep played a part in the success of the Ice Bucket Challenge.
