Police: Zipcar that struck officer located during shooting investigation located

CHELSEA, Mass. — Chelsea police located a car they say struck a detective while fleeing during a shooting investigation.

The silver Subaru Impreza, a rented Zipcar, was located in Lynn and towed to the Chelsea police department Friday night.

Police had previously released a Bo On the Look-out (BOLO) to other agencies to track down the vehicle Friday afternoon.

Investigators say the driver, a person-of-interest in the shooting of a 68-year-old woman Thursday, had been approached by detectives around 4 p.m., Friday afternoon.

The driver evaded police, fleeing into oncoming traffic and clipping an officer in the arm, throwing him to the ground.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was treated by medics on scene, later returning to the job.

Police alerted the public the car had been last seen crossing the Chelsea Street Bridge, heading into East Boston.

Police confirmed the car, seen by Boston 25 News being impounded, was the involved car, but said no arrest had been made as of late Friday night.

The driver is wanted for questioning in the shooting of an innocent woman police say was caught in the crossfire of a brazen, daytime shooting on Washington Ave., Thursday afternoon.

She was standing near businesses when she was shot in the arm and chest.

The victim’s son drove her a short distance before an ambulance rushed her to the hospital in stable condition.
