Pedestrian struck, killed by Commuter Rail train in Fitchburg

FITCHBURG, Mass. — An adult female was struck and killed by an inbound Commuter Rail train in Fitchburg, according to a release from the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA).

Transit Police responded to the scene of the crash after receiving the call around 1:40 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Fitchburg Fire and Emergency Medical Services joined Transit PD at the scene.

Once on scene, officials learned that a female victim, around the age of 58, was struck while trespassing on the right of way near 100 Main St. in Fitchburg, according to the release. The victim was pronounced dead due to her sustained injuries.

The victim's identity has not yet been released. Transit Police and the Worcester County District Attorney's Office are investigating the incident. Foul play is not suspected, per the release.

There were no passengers onboard the train at the time of the crash.
