Patriots reportedly finalizing deal for Eagles defensive end Michael Bennett

As trade rumors begin to swirl in the NFL offseason, it appears if the Patriots are about to make a splash to add to their already-stellar defense.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the team is finalizing a deal with the Eagles to send defensive end Michael Bennett to the Patriots.

Schefter reported that, should the deal go through, the two teams would swap fifth and seventh round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft, meaning the Eagles would land a fifth-round pick and the Patriots would receive Bennett and the seventh-rounder.

Bennett has also played with the Seahawks and Buccaneers in his career after being signed as an undrafted free agent back in 2009.

The deal comes after the Eagles pass rusher reportedly said he would want a pay raise and wouldn't accept any pay cut for the 2019 season.

Bennett has a small history with the Patriots, notably getting involved in a scrum at the end of Super Bowl XLIX when the Patriots beat the Seahawks in the 2014 season.
