CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Approximately 500 parking spaces in the Alewife station parking garage will be off limits Friday while crews repair concrete.
On Wednesday afternoon, a piece of concrete fell onto a customer's car on the second floor of the Alewife parking garage.
No one was injured.
As of Thursday night, officials said emergency repairs will continue into Friday, causing more headaches for commuters.
MBTA engineers checked out the garage's condition and determined it was safe for use, but spot repairs needed to be done on the second floor.
The MBTA has closed off the second floor for customer parking on Thursday to fix the concrete.
Commuters should expect about 500 fewer parking spaces on Thursday and Friday.
After the spot repairs are complete, the MBTA will assess the other parking garage floors for necessary spot repairs.
In a statement, the MBTA said:
“While the location of the spot repairs will shift within the garage, the repair work will continue to require the temporary net reduction of approximately 500 parking spaces.”
