SALEM, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police arrested and charged a New Hampshire man with burglary and filing a false report after they say he reported someone broke into his parents' home and stole money, though police now believe he is the person who stole the money.
Salem, N.H. police responded to a home on Sunday after 32-year-old David Delaurier Jr. called 911 and reported a man had broken into his parents' home, where Delaurier also lives, and attempted to break down his parents' bedroom door. His parents were not home at the time. The man, Delaurier said, then ran out of the house through the back door, with Delaurier chasing after him. The man then got into a gray Honda Civic and drove away, according to Delaurier's account of events.
Soon, however, the police officers who responded to the scene "realized his story had numerous holes and physical evidence at the scene did not corroborate the depiction of events given by the witness," officials said.
When Delaurier's parents came home, they reported money missing from their bedroom, the exact amount of which which police later found in David Delaurier Jr.'s bedroom.
Police returned the money to Delaurier's parents and arrested Delaurier, charging him with burglary and false reports to law enforcement.
He was held overnight in the Rockingham County Jail and was arraigned in court Monday.
