20-year-old hiker missing from popular NH campground

FRANCONIA, N.H. — Authorities are asking for the public’s help after they received a report of an overdue hiker at a popular New Hampshire campground.

20-year-old Emily Sotelo was dropped off at Lafayette Place Campground in Franconia on Sunday morning and hasn’t been heard from since, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division.

She is described as 5′3, 115 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Sotelo was last seen wearing exercise pants and a brown jacket.

Temperatures fell into the teens in that region on Sunday night, according to the Boston 25 Weather Team, and never got out of the 20′s for the entire day. As of Monday morning, Sotelo was still missing.

Officers say she intended to follow the hiking route of Mount Lafayette, Haystack and Flume.

State Police are sending out search parties to canvass the areas they couldn’t access on Sunday, a spokesperson for the department told Boston 25 News.

Anyone who may have encountered Sotelo along these hiking routes is asked to contact police.
