New England’s Unsolved Podcast: The Gardner Museum Heist

BOSTON — The biggest art heist in history happened in Boston's Fenway neighborhood in the waning hours of St. Patrick's Day in 1990.

On a quiet evening, two young security guards were tricked into opening the door to two thieves who plundered the century-old museum for more than an hour.

But there's so much more to the story of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum than the heist that stripped its walls of priceless master works.

As the museum continues to grow and thrive in its beautiful home, the empty frames linger in its galleries as a reminder of an infamous crime.
