Nauset Beach closes for 1 hour after shark sighting for third straight weekend

ORLEANS, Mass. — A great white shark was spotted off the coast of Nauset Beach in Orleans on Saturday afternoon, causing the beach to close for an hour, according to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy.

The shark was sighted approximately 50 yards offshore by the head lifeguard of Nauset Beach. The sighting occurred at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Summer 2019 has featured a number of shark-related beach closings in the eastern part of Cape Cod, including at Nauset Beach, which has closed temporarily for the third consecutive weekend.
