National Weather Service confirms 2 tornadoes hit Cape Cod

YARMOUTH, Mass. — Two EF1 tornadoes with 110 mph winds ripped off a hotel roof, downed trees that blocked roads, and knocked out power to thousands on Cape Cod on Tuesday during the peak of tourist season.

The National Weather Service says the tornado began in Yarmouth and ended in Harwich.

The first tornado struck Yarmouth just before noon, according to the National Weather Service, which along with the state Emergency Management Agency sent a survey team to the scene to assess the damage and the tornado's strength.

The same supercell that brought the tornado in Yarmouth touched down again in Harwich just after noon.

Observations list a waterspout, widespread straight-line wind damage and trees being uprooted or snapped.

No injuries were reported.
