NASHUA, N.H. — A famous face from Nashua is stepping in to offer assistance after a kind gesture by his former school’s football team.
Cousins Julian Gonzalez and Devin Bracetty gave clothing and shoes to a fellow Nashua North High School football player when he was bullied for wearing the same outfit every day.
They garnered major league support after New York Mets Pitcher Kevin McGowan saw Boston 25's story Wednesday night when his girlfriend sent him the link.
“You hear about bullying all the time and it's really, really sad and it's nice to see that there are teammates who know the boy and want to help the kid,” McGowan told Boston 25 News. “It's amazing to see and I'm really proud of those guys.”
McGowan spoke with us by phone from New York.
He says after seeing the support among teammates, he became inspired. He’s now asking the football coach how he can help.
McGowan credits his success to the support he’s received along the way. And because of that, he always looks for opportunities to give back.
“I think it's very important,” he said. “It shows the class of human you can be. You can help people out who need your help and you can do something to make someone smile a bit more, which is obviously what you want to do. I'm glad I could help out in any way I can.”
And McGowan isn't the only one to reach out.
The high school's athletic director told Boston 25 Thursday, she's already gotten calls from people who want to give all three teens gift cards.
