MILTON, Mass. — A girls lacrosse coach has been removed from Milton High School amid an investigation that she sent inappropriate texts to students, according to the school's administration.

In a statement sent to Boston 25 News, Superintendent Mary Gormley said the administration was made aware that a female coach was contacting students "excessively during the day, evening and on weekends."

Gormley added the text conversations may have been inappropriate and the coach may have inquired about students' personal lives.

Once the texts were brought to the attention of school officials, the coach was immediately removed from her duties.

"We are disappointed and concerned by this alleged conduct," Gormley said. "The district takes very seriously its duty and obligation to care for our student-athletes. We continue to remain committed to our efforts to ensure a safe learning community."

School officials are investigating and they've also contacted Milton Police and state agencies.

The coach was not identified by the school department.

Milton Police did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Sunday.
