Three men responsible for anti-immigrant posters put up in East Boston were arrested on assault and weapons charges, police say.
Police say the arrests were made in the area of Winthrop Street around 9:45 p.m. Friday night when officers on directed patrol in the area saw a group of men wearing face masks.
The officers were in the area due to recent reports of posters hanging up that had upset nearby residents.

Officers approached the group, with one of the men carrying a can of spray paint, to try to speak with them, and police say one of the men was "extremely uncooperative" and removed his wallet from his pocket.
When officers reached for what they thought would be the man's identification card, the man allegedly slapped the officer's hand away, and he was then placed under arrest.
Two other men in the group were also arrested in the incident.
An official with knowledge of the case said the three men were also responsible for the anti-immigrant posters put up in East Boston that had police patrolling in the area.
