Member of 'violent Brockton gang' wanted on kidnapping charges

BROCKTON, Mass. — The FBI Boston and local officials are asking the public’s help with the search of an “armed and dangerous” man wanted on kidnapping charges.

The FBI said that Diego Barros Pires was involved in the kidnapping of one adult and two minors in Brockton and Quincy. He's an alleged member of a violent Brockton gang.

Pires, also known as “Smurf” or “Do It,” is a 24-year-old originally from Cape Verdean. He’s a U.S. Citizen and last resided  on Madrid Square in Brockton.

He’s described as 5-foot-8, 160 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Pires has two tattoos, one on his right forearm that says “RIP Johnny” and the other on his left forearm that says “Kyle.”

"He is considered armed and dangerous and the FBI said, “he poses a serious danger to the public.” The FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to his location and arrest.

At this point in time, we've exhausted all investigative leads in locating him and we're asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact law enforcement," said Harold H. Shaw, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Boston Division.

The FBI's Southeastern Massachusetts Gang Task Force is composed of the following agencies: the FBI, the Massachusetts State Police, and Brockton Police Department.
