MELROSE, Mass. — Melrose police are looking for a man wanted for a home break in and attempted murder.
Police say late Friday night, 54-year-old John C. Ferreira broke into a home on Vinton Street and violently attacked two women. Police say Ferreira knows the women and targeted them in this attack. Sources tell Boston 25 News the women are Ferreira's mother and sister.
Police say Ferreira attacked one of the women with a hammer then bound her to a chair. The other woman came home while this was happening, and was also beaten.
"He tied her up with wire ties and duct tape," said Chief Michael Lyle. "She had extensive injuries to her arms and limbs."
Ferreira is described as a white male with a medium build and light complexion. He is 5’7” tall, weighs approximately 200 pounds and has a graying mustache and partially shaved brown hair.
He is believed to be driving a red Toyota Corolla with Massachusetts plates 546XL1, which he allegedly stole from one of the victims. Police say they think he’s traveling with a Rottweiler dog.
Melrose police say Ferreira does have a record, but all are non-violent offenses.
"It's bizarre behavior on this individual's part. He's known to police, but he's never done anything like this in the past, he assisted in hockey schools. It's clearly out of the ordinary," said Lyle.
Ferreira is wanted for assault with intent to murder. Anyone with any information on where Ferreira may be is asked to call police at (781)665-1212. Ferreira is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
